Is Panic Over The Coronavirus Necessary Or Do We Already Have Inexpensive, Effective Therapies?
“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.”
The widespread fear and panic over the coronavirus seems somewhat overblown, given that there are proven inexpensive, effective therapies available. Could everyone be overreacting when the truth and answers are before us?
Orthomolecular.org published an article Successful High-Dose Vitamin C Treatment of Patients with Serious and Critical COVID-19 Infection by Richard Cheng, MD, PhD
Dr. Cheng reports that a gathering of medical doctors, healthcare providers and scientists met online on March 17, 2020 to discuss the use of high dose intravenous vitamin C in the treatment of moderate to severe cases of Covid-19 patients.
Leading the discussion was Dr. Enqian Mao, chief of emergency medicine department at Ruijin Hospital in Shanghai. Dr. Mao is a member of the Senior Expert Team at the Shanghai Public Health Center, where all Covid-19 patients have been treated. Dr. Mao co-authored the Shanghai Guidelines for the Treatment of Covid-19 infection.
Dr. Mao has been treating patients with Vitamin C intravenously for 10 years for illness such as acute pancreatitis, sepsis, surgical wound healing and other conditions.
When the Covid-19 pandemic began, Dr. Mao and other experts recommended intravenous Vitamin C for patients with moderate or severe infections. Dr. Mao's group treated 50 patients with the Covid-19 infection with intravenous Vitamin C, 10,000 mg. - 20,000 mg. a day for 7-10 days. 10,000 mg. was used for moderate cases and 20,000 mg. was used for more severe cases.
The results were astounding: All patients who received intravenous Vitamin C improved and none died. None experienced any side effects.
It has been pointed out a number of times that many who have died of the coronavirus had other health issues, so our best defense is to improve our health by eating a nutritious diet and ensure that our immune system is functioning in peak condition.
Board-certified family physician and holistic practitioner Dr. David Brownstein said that first, it is important to maintain optimal levels of nutrients, particularly vitamins A, C, and D. He asserts that "most people have suboptimal vitamin A and C levels. Both of these nutrients have antiviral abilities and are able to support the immune system when it is under viral attack."
Dr. Brownstein recommends 3-5,000 mg/day of vitamin C, and at the start of illness, take 1,000 mg/hour until loose stools develop. He recommends 5,000 units/day of Vitamin A (not beta-carotene) if not ill and 100,000 units/day for four days at the start of illness. (He cautions pregnant women to not take these doses.) He recommends 50,000 units/day of Vitamin D3 for four days.
Dr. Brownstein is also an advocate of iodine, which he says is essential to fighting off an infection and for the immune system. He asserts that "there is no bacteria, virus, parasite or fungus that is known to be resistant to iodine." He recommends 25 mg/day and more - as much as 50-100 mg/day at the first sign of illness. He recommends that iodine be used under the guidance of an iodine-knowledgeable doctor.
Maybe we should turn the news off, with the constant hype about the coronavirus, which can actually create stress that depresses the immune system. We should instead focus on building our health, making sure we've prepared sensibly with necessities, and spend our time planning for life after the coronavirus.
